Default Shifting a Freightliner 2007

What are the up/down shift rpm's for 2007 Freightliner? Is it like a 2007 Peterbilt with a CAT engine? I never drove a Freightliner, but I may have a chance if the company hires me... need to know ASAP. Thanks.

Dale;

That is a really hard question to answer.

Without knowing the gear ratios of the driveline, we cannot tell you what you need to know.

Best bet is to let your tester know that you are not sure of the ratio, and you will figure it out fairly quickly. If you use the progressive shifting techniques taught you, it will only be a couple of minutes to get the right pattern.

It is the power train that determines the shift points not the truck manufacture. With a late model truck I would try to shift progressively. Just get it moving maybe up to 1100 RPM then shift. Then slightly higher RPM and shift and so on. You will tell real fast if the trucks computer is set up for this kind of shifting. Who knows your tester might tell you what the limits are or it maybe marked on the tach. As for shift points I would guess 1300 to 1500.

Don't panic too much about shifting. Everyone, except me, has ground a few or missed one even on flat ground. You will get the feel for the truck in a short time. Watch the terrain so you get an idea what to expect on how fast/slow you will loose/gain speed.

Personally if I was testing you I would watch more how you handle the truck, and how you watch all around you mirrors, ahead, behind, traffic. etc.

Good Luck.

I agree with triple R, yes they will want you to be able to operate a manual transmission but shifting totaly without any error should be the last thing on the testers mind, it should probably be the last thing on yours, like I said in the pm, drive it like you have always driven and you will do great!!

and of course you have to remember every truck drives different and might shift up/down at different speeds. my International up shifts at 1800 rpms and down shifts around 11oo-1200 rpms.
