Exclamation How many of you do this?

How many of you actually do what the DOT regulations say when it comes to logging all of the time you are compensated for either on your regular job or anywhere else?

§395.2 Definitions.

(3) All driving time as defined in the term driving time;

(4) All time, other than driving time, in or upon any commercial motor vehicle except time spent resting in a sleeper berth;

(7) All time spent providing a breath sample or urine specimen, including travel time to and from the collection site, in order to comply with the random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, or follow-up testing required by part 382 of this subchapter when directed by a motor carrier.

(9) Performing any compensated work for a person who is not a motor carrier.

When I was a freight hauler ( Yellow and those kind of companys ) I logged as close as possible so I could work my times off. When I ran the road I was forced to log but still run ( Lets just say above the law a bit )...I would log lets say I was supposed to go to bed somewhere close to the NY and PA line on I-84.I would show going to bed there but I would run another 50 or 60 miles to the truck stop in Scranton Pa.Only because it was a better place and safer place to stay I thought.It would have been my butt had anything happened.But I would stay there till my log caught up.Usually an extra hour or two at the most. Still there is no excuse for breaking the law.

Alltime spent on the clock goes on the bottom line for me,I will say I feel I log 99% close to the DOT guideline. My pre & post trips do go on the top line but reguardless it is still just a max of 14 hours from punch to punch!!!

I don't have to log anymore but when i did I always kept it legit, as close as possible to actual as possible. the only exception for me was when i used to run team, technically speaking any time in the jump seat should have been on line 4, but I never logged it.

I follow the Canadian Regs as close as possible. That is the only way to ensure that you get your time off when it is due.

I still wonder why truckers are the only people who want to work more, rather than less.

I think that if all drivers were to work the rules, the wages would increase, and better still, there would be more young people entering the driving force.

I log off duty once I am docked. As long as I am not required to count the freight or unload or watch the unloading or loading process I am free to pursue other "activities" such as sleeping, reading, Bs ing with other drivers, playing on my laptop, or watching a movie.
The bottom line is the more time you spend on line 4 the less time you will have available for driving by the end of the week. This is in reference to the 60 hr/7 day rule or 70hr/ 8 day rule.
