Default im an experienced driver in a new country

hi everyone,
i have a simple question ..so here goes.
ive driven tractor/trailer back in England and Europe for the last 17 years. Then i came to Canada after meeting a wonderfull woman..we plan to marry but the problem im having.......and this is common for foreign workers is this.
I now work for a company in Cambridge but live in Oshawa..i have a valid work permit but wish to change companies..but the problem is that not enough companies know how to work with the HRDC and help me in gaining gamefull employment and changing the work permit over to a particular company without me taking a job from a Canadian..which is not my intention at all...is there anyone or anything that could help me in this situation. I have been here a full year and would love to work localy and be home evry night.....................please help.

Foden;

Your best bet would be to wait out the year until you have your full landed status. Once you have that in your hand, you need not worry about the sponsored work permit.

I don't think you need to worry about changing companies during that period. If a company needs drivers, and they are participating in the Foreign workers program, you would not be taking a job from a Canadian worker. My employer participates in Western Canada, and could put 100 drivers to work in the next month if they were available.

Talking thanks for reply

Thanks pcuthbert,

one more question....what do the Canadian Immigration consider "landed papers"

at present im going through a divorce and will have that fully by the end of feb 2008...and will remarry in march.

There also seems a little bit of confussion as to how long i must wait to apply for permenant residency and for citizenship?

i get more answers here than on the official website....we,ve even considered moving either west or east to England.....which is a little silly since i came 3600 miles to start a new life lol
