Default HAZMAT Renewal?

Do I have to renew my HAZMAT every year or is it a one time deal?

Here in NC they renew it when you have to renew your license. That is every five years. Don't know where you are or what your state does. It is not a one time deal where ever you are.

I'm not sure but I don't recall having received a notice about any endorsements. If you haven't been through the background check for Hazmat you need to go ahead and start that process as it takes considerable amount of time for it to be completed.

if you are talking about the livescan prints or hazprints or whatever they are calling them now, I'm pretty sure that you will have to go through that every time you renew your license. as for the endorsement itself, generally speaking it is renewed like any other endorsement. when you go renew your license you take all the extra tests, pass them and you have your endorsement. (last time I renewed I had upwards of 9 written tests I had to go through! talk about fun... NOT!)

and when you move from state to state, you have to go thru the process all over again to get it on your new cdl. for some reason it's not good from state to state even though it is a gov't deal. just another way for the states to make more money.

I can't speak for all states, but in general the Hazmat endorsement in Texas is for the period the license is in force (generally 5 years). Each time a driver renews the license and wants to keep the endorsement, he or she will have to under go a background check, as well as take the hazmat test.

Sounds like a government fundraising activity at the federal level.
